About
The Taiki Space Community Center SORA is an exhibition and educational facility operated at Hokkaido Spaceport, serving as a gateway to the aerospace heritage of Taiki Town, Hokkaido. The center documents four decades of space development in the region, from early JAXA atmospheric experiments beginning in 1992 to the current commercial spaceport era.
Sora features two exhibition rooms with physical rockets and historical artifacts. Highlights include a full-scale MOMO sounding rocket mock-up from Interstellar Technologies — Japan’s first privately-developed rocket to reach space — a 1/60 scale model of a JAXA atmospheric science balloon, and exhibit panels on HOSPO’s development and Taiki Town’s ‘Aerospace Silicon Valley’ vision. A dedicated training room hosts a rocket launch sound experience and video screenings of MOMO launches.
Sora is open to the public free of charge from April 1 through November 30 each year, with guided tours available when the spaceport is in operation. Groups of 20 or more are encouraged to pre-register. The center offers 31 free parking spaces.
