About

SR75 is HyImpulse Technologies’ flagship sounding rocket and the first privately developed hybrid-propellant rocket to be operated from German industry. The vehicle uses an N2O (nitrous oxide) and paraffin wax hybrid propulsion system, with the Bimodal Hybrid Engine (BHE) that can operate in different thrust modes during flight.

SR75 conducts sounding rocket flights carrying scientific and technology demonstration payloads to altitudes above 100 km (the Kármán line), providing several minutes of microgravity for experiment packages. The rocket completed its first launch from Southern Launch’s Koonibba Test Range in South Australia in 2023 — the first hybrid rocket from Germany to reach space.

HyImpulse is a spin-off from the Institute of Space Systems (IRS) at the University of Stuttgart, where hybrid propulsion research has been ongoing since the 1990s. The company’s technology roadmap progresses from SR75 (sounding rocket) through SL1 (suborbital small launch) to an orbital hybrid rocket. SR75 is offered commercially for microgravity experiments, atmospheric science, and technology demonstration payloads in the 50–75 mm diameter range.
