About
Industry Pack (IP) modules are international-standard mezzanine modules per ANSI-VITA 4, approximately the size of a business card (99mm x 45mm). They feature a 16 or 32 bit wide I/O interface and 50 user-defined I/O pins, making them ideal for providing high-density I/O in a compact form factor. IP carriers provide multiple slots on a single carrier, allowing multiple IP modules to be fitted into a single slot of a Compact PCI / VME / VXI / PCI card cage. Key advantages include: utilisation of slot space by providing multiple functions in a single slot; low cost implementation due to small size; provision of only the quantity of I/O required for the application; availability of many functions on the IP form factor from multiple vendors; flexibility of routing to front or rear of the card cage via suitable carrier selection; and the ability to combine standard IP modules with custom rear I/O capabilities for low-cost customisation and long-term maintainability. A unique advantage of the IP concept is the ability to use IP modules across multiple hardware architectures – a project can procure IP modules early for simulation or software development on low-cost PC platforms, then transfer resources to the final Compact PCI, VME or VXI platform, with developed source code easily ported to the final environment. The layout of the IP board enables mechanical ruggedisation, meeting vibration and shock resistant application requirements. Data Patterns has implemented a range of functions on the IP form factor, including communication modules, digital I/O modules, special functions such as pulse generation and sensing, resolver inputs, and timing generation suited to special signals found on ships; some products are used in airborne as well as marine applications. Further custom functions can be developed by Data Patterns in short time frames as required by project needs. Use of IP modules with carriers in standard platforms such as Compact PCI, VXI, VME and PCI enables flexible and rapid project implementation. The product line also includes M-Module (MM) format boards for precision signal conditioning, ADC and source functions.
