About

KMI provides Orbit Change Maneuver services, addressing the critical need for satellite relocation due to malfunctions, safety concerns, or mission changes. The service utilizes the Laelaps spacecraft, which is equipped with a patented REACCH end-effector capable of non-destructive capture and release of target satellites, regardless of their docking structure. This allows operational satellites to be moved from their current position to a desired new orbit while remaining functional. The process involves Laelaps approaching, rendezvousing, and docking with the target object using its REACCH end-effector. It then uses its propulsion system to transport the object to the specified location, releases the grapple, and becomes available for subsequent missions. For larger maneuvers or significant orbit plane changes, KMI can deploy multiple Laelaps spacecraft to complete the mission. A key benefit of this service is that operators only pay for the contracted action, as the Laelaps spacecraft is reusable, offering an efficient, safe, and universal solution for satellite mobility needs in space.
