KMI’s Orbit Change Maneuvers service enables satellite operators to reposition their spacecraft when orbital adjustments are needed due to malfunctioning propulsion systems, collision avoidance requirements, or mission evolution. Using the Laelaps spacecraft with the patented REACCH (Responsive Engaging Arm for Capture of Challenging High-value objects) end-effector, KMI can approach, dock with, and transport any satellite regardless of its docking structure — without requiring modifications to the target.
The target satellite can be moved from its current orbit to where it needs to be and continue its mission. For larger orbital maneuvers such as orbit plane changes, multiple Laelaps spacecraft can be deployed. Clients pay only for the contracted services rather than bearing the full cost of a dedicated spacecraft, making orbital logistics economically accessible. The process involves approach and rendezvous, docking via the REACCH end-effector, propulsive transport to the target orbit, and release to proceed to the next mission.
