Active Debris Removal
Description
KMI's Active Debris Removal (ADR) service addresses the growing challenge of orbital debris by removing defunct satellites and rocket bodies that pose collision risks to operational spacecraft. The Laelaps spacecraft is capable of approaching, rendezvousing with, and non-destructively adhering to a debris object — including tumbling and uncontrolled objects — using the proprietary REACCH end-effector technology.
A single Laelaps spacecraft can complete multiple debris removal missions per deployment. The service handles large rocket bodies and unprepared debris objects, detumbling them and releasing them to deorbit altitudes for controlled reentry. Transparent pricing for thousands of tracked debris objects is available through the Fresnel pricing tool, developed in partnership with Privateer, accessible via KMI's website.
