Opterus’ patent-pending Living Hinge Boom (LHB) utilizes a fully closed circular cross-section architecture. This design allows for extremely short boom transition lengths and narrow-packaged widths, which maximizes compaction while simultaneously improving the boom’s strength and stiffness. The LHB is scalable to both small and large cross-section diameters. Opterus states that their LHB manufacturing process offers increased structural performance compared to traditional slit-tubes, while maintaining simple manufacturing processes for rapid, low-cost fabrication. The product is presented as an alternative to T-CTM and Slit Tube Boom deployers.
