About
The Magdrive Warlock is an electric propulsion system that generates thrust an order of magnitude higher than other similar-sized electric propulsion systems. It uses a metal propellant and recharged internal energy to create a high-energy plasma. The full integrated system fits inside a single 2U CubeSat with a dry mass of 2.5 kg, including propellant, onboard processor, energy storage, and plasma injector. The thruster employs a pulsed power system (PPS) to deliver a multi-kA, MW class electrical current pulse to the plasma injector. It offers customizable performance, enabling adjustable specific impulse and deep throttling for rendezvous, proximity operations, and precise maneuvering. An integrated microprocessor allows it to be commanded through the satellite’s master controls, ensuring an easy-to-integrate propulsion system. The use of storable metal propellant removes the need for heavy fuel tanks, cryogenics, or pressurization, and eliminates handling hazards. Furthermore, the Warlock provides directional thrust, capable of vectoring up to 10 degrees for main propulsion or attitude control by altering its magnetic properties.
