About
The MicroWheel 1000, part of MSCI’s High Performance Attitude Control product line, serves as a reaction wheel torque actuator and angular momentum storage device specifically for mini-satellites and microsatellites. This 1000-series MicroWheel is engineered for applications where momentum storage requirements are less than 1000 mNms. It functions as a “smart” sensor/actuator pair, integrating both a reaction wheel and an optional solid-state angular rate sensor. Both components are managed locally by an embedded micro-controller, which implements local speed and torque control loops for the reaction wheel. This allows the reaction wheel to precisely track speed or torque commands issued by a satellite’s attitude control computer. MSCI highlights the extensive flight heritage of its world-leading MicroWheels. The MW 1000 MicroWheels offer a simple, drop-in solution for satellite control, performing all motor control tasks internally via a serial data interface to generate the exact torque requested by the Attitude Control System (ACS) computer. Key capabilities include a spaceflight-proven design, low power consumption, and an all-in-one control and navigation solution when equipped with the optional rate sensor.
