About

The MicroWheel 200 (MW 200X) is designed for satellites requiring less than 200 mNms of momentum storage. It functions as a “smart” sensor/actuator pair, incorporating both a reaction wheel and an optional solid-state angular rate sensor. These components are locally operated by an embedded micro-controller, which implements local speed and torque control loops for the reaction wheel. This allows the reaction wheel to accurately track speed or torque commands from a satellite’s attitude control computer. MSCI’s MW 200X MicroWheels provide a simple, drop-in solution for satellite control, performing all motor control tasks internally to generate precisely the torque requested by the Attitude Control System (ACS) computer via a serial data interface. The MW 200X’s key capabilities include a spaceflight-proven design, low power consumption, and an all-in-one control and navigation solution when equipped with the optional rate sensor. MSCI is proud of the extensive flight heritage of the MW 200X MicroWheels, with over 47 years of operational wheel-hours in LEO orbit across three separate missions.
