About
FireSat is a satellite constellation and payload developed by Muon Space in partnership with the Earth Fire Alliance (EFA), purpose-built to detect and monitor wildfires globally. Built on Muon’s Condor-M platform, each FireSat satellite carries a six-channel multispectral infrared payload capable of detecting fires as small as five-by-five meters and seeing through smoke and clouds, purpose-built to identify early ignitions and track active fires that other space-based systems miss.
The FireSat Protoflight satellite was designed, built, and launched by Muon in under a year, lifting off on SpaceX’s Transporter-13 mission on March 14, 2025. By summer 2025 it had captured first-of-its-kind wildfire imagery and, over its first year on orbit, collected more than one million multispectral infrared images while operating continuously. On July 7, 2026, Muon launched the first three operational FireSat satellites aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-17 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base, marking FireSat’s transition from a single demonstration spacecraft to an operational constellation. Together, the three satellites provide at least twice-daily revisit across every fire-prone region on Earth, with Muon and EFA targeting hourly global revisit by 2029. FireSat is supported by the Bezos Earth Fund, Google.org, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and other partners.
