About
GomSpace’s Deployable Solar Panel System (DSP) is engineered for integration with 3U or 6U satellites. It comprises three panels linked by spring-loaded hinges, which are folded against the satellite’s side within the deployment pod during launch. Upon reaching space, a release system initiates the panel deployment. The DSP’s design incorporates an aluminium support structure, ensuring a slim profile and low mass while maintaining robust construction. This design also provides sufficient thermal mass to minimize thermal stress on the solar cells. The DSP is available in three configurations: 135°, 135° reverse, and 90°, each suitable for 3U or 6U structures. Each version includes a mounting panel for spacecraft attachment and two deployable panels covered with solar cells. A 135-degree wing can generate up to 18W per DSP. Key features include reliable deployment via a robust mechanism with integrated Hold Down Release Mechanisms (HDRM), GSSB connectors for enhanced communication, and precision orientation with a smart sun sensor on the 135° version. The system operates within a temperature range of -60°C to +80°C, achieves 30% solar panel efficiency, and generates 1.15W per cell in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Space-qualified triple junction solar cells with cover glass ensure durability and protection, with each cell offering a 30cm² effective area for optimal energy capture.
