About
NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) is India’s government-owned commercial space company, established in 2019 as a wholly-owned Government of India undertaking under the Department of Space. NSIL serves as the commercial arm of ISRO, marketing and selling launch services on ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) rockets to international customers.
PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) is India’s workhorse rocket with 57+ successful flights, capable of delivering up to 1,750 kg to SSO or 3,800 kg to LEO. PSLV is particularly notable for its precision rideshare deployment of large satellite constellations — the PSLV-C37 mission in 2017 set a world record by deploying 104 satellites in a single launch. GSLV Mk3 (LVM3) can carry 4,000 kg to GTO for heavier geostationary payloads.
NSIL also provides satellite manufacturing services, technology transfer agreements, and manages ISRO’s commercial antenna and spectrum assets. As India opens its space sector to private companies, NSIL is positioned as both a launch service provider and as the entity that transfers ISRO technology to emerging Indian private space companies.
