Planet SuperRes

Planet SuperRes is a breakthrough technology that increases the spatial resolution of PlanetScope near-daily imagery into sharp 2m resolution. It is designed specifically for human perception, sharpening 3m pixels into high-definition 2m imagery, making small-scale objects and textures visible for the first time in a near-daily monitoring stream. SuperRes allows users to move beyond point-based tasking and apply high-resolution clarity to entire regions with SuperRes Mosaics, combining detail with the necessary scale. Planet ensures that SuperRes imagery looks natural and remains faithful to the ground truth with a model trained on Planet’s massive collection of satellite image pairs. This is delivered with a confidence layer to ensure transparency in the level of trust. The technology leverages Generative AI with Planet Data to deliver sharp, natural-looking satellite imagery, utilizing ESRGAN (Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Network) and Perceptual Loss Training. A confidence layer assesses the accuracy of generated pixels by evaluating various sources of error. Offerings include SuperRes Mosaics, part of Planet Mosaics, providing imagery for monitoring broad regions of interest over time, and SuperRes PlanetScope Scenes, which provides on-demand, near-daily imagery for small-scale analysis and large-area asynchronous processing.
