RapidEye® Constellation and Sensor Overview
RapidEye was a constellation of five satellites that operated from 2009 to 2020, providing imagery with approximately 5 meters per pixel resolution.
About
The RapidEye satellite constellation, formerly operated by Planet, consisted of a single launch of five high-resolution satellites. Although retired in 2020, RapidEye images are still available for download through Planet Archives. RapidEye products are accessible via Planet’s APIs, User Interfaces, and Integrations, offered as Scene and OrthoTile products. A RapidEye Scene product is an individual framed scene, captured by the satellite, ranging from 75 x 50 square kilometers to 75 x 300 square kilometers. A RapidEye OrthoTile product is a 25 x 25 square kilometers orthorectified and tiled product generated from consecutive scenes, based on a worldwide, fixed UTM grid system. Various asset types are available for download, including Basic Analytic, Analytic, Visual, and Surface Reflectance, each with different radiometric processing and rectification to suit diverse applications from data science to visual inspection and temporal analysis.
