About

The Space X-ray Detector (SXD) is a space-rated silicon detector of ionizing radiation that serves as both a dosimeter and a spectrometer. It was designed for the space and aviation industries as a compact device for radiation measurements. Its small size, low mass, and extreme energy efficiency make SXD suitable for utilization in CubeSats, SmallSats, drones, or various handheld applications where compact radiation monitoring is required. As a digital spectrometer, SXD provides detailed energy-resolved measurements of incident ionizing radiation, supporting scientific payloads studying the space radiation environment as well as engineering payloads monitoring cumulative dose exposure on satellite electronics over a mission’s lifetime. The instrument leverages Serenum’s silicon detector technology and compact digital signal processing electronics to deliver spectrometer-grade performance in a package sized for nanosatellite and small-satellite integration, with current availability quoted at approximately 12 weeks from order.
