Space Union’s Satellite Optical Laser Link is an extra-high-throughput free-space optical (FSO) laser communication system designed for inter-satellite and satellite-to-gateway links in low Earth orbit. The technology enables a new era of microsatellite connectivity by forming high-bandwidth optical backbone links between orbital assets without the bandwidth limitations of traditional RF communications. As a registered ITU operating agency, Space Union operates this technology as a Low Orbit Operator. The link architecture supports 5G network coverage extension beyond terrestrial reach, Internet of Things device-to-device communication integrated with existing GSM networks, and serves as the transmission medium for quantum-secured data payloads via the companion QKD system. The free-space optical approach eliminates interference issues and offers superior spectral efficiency compared to radio-frequency links, making it well-suited for dense LEO constellations requiring high aggregate throughput.
