About

Fenix Energy designs, manufactures and markets low-carbon energy production systems based on the combustion of metal particles. On Earth, the targeted market is off-grid energy production including network balancing and industrial cogeneration. For lunar applications, the technology leverages the fact that regolith is a rich source of metals and oxygen, making it possible to produce energy from in-situ resources during the 14 days without sunlight on the Moon. Iron is the preferred fuel — one of the most abundant elements in both Earth’s crust and lunar regolith. Its high-temperature oxidation generates heat without CO2 emissions and produces rust that is easily recoverable and regenerable from renewable energies. The system enables simple, safe deployment for industrial heat or off-grid electricity production without requiring electricity grid extension or pipeline infrastructure.
