About
The Lunar Crew Health and Life Support programme at TechTheMoon addresses the physiological and psychological risks for crews spending several months in the hostile lunar environment. Working in partnership with MEDES (the CNES Space Medicine Institute in Toulouse), the programme supports startups developing health monitoring, diagnostic, and human performance solutions.
Key portfolio companies include Stellar Echo, which has developed a telemedicine ultrasound service enabling non-specialists to perform guided remote diagnostics, combining a portable high-performance ultrasound with ECG, temperature, and blood pressure monitoring — validated for Earth remote medicine before deployment in lunar base scenarios. Chipiron is building the world’s first lightweight, low-cost MRI system operating at ultra-low magnetic field strength without compromising image quality; for space applications, MRI is particularly valuable because it produces no ionising radiation unlike X-rays, critical for crews already subject to high cosmic radiation doses.
InMind-VR provides a human factors risk monitoring platform combining virtual reality with physiological and neurological sensors to assess crew cognitive and physical performance, going beyond traditional medical-psychological evaluation to enable dynamic scenario-based neuroscience-informed assessment.
Biodysseus operates an underwater analog research laboratory in Savoie that simulates lunar surface conditions (confinement, hostile environment, simulated microgravity in aquatic settings) for medium and long-duration analog missions, enabling prototype testing and crew behaviour research in realistic analogues of lunar operations.
