The ORC3990 is a radiation-tolerant, space-grade System-on-Chip (SoC) developed by Totum Labs (in partnership with Orca Systems) for use in satellite onboard computers, payload processors, and avionics subsystems operating in Low Earth Orbit and higher radiation environments. The device integrates a high-performance processor core with dedicated hardware accelerators for image processing, RF signal processing, and data compression — enabling a single-chip solution for tasks that previously required multiple ASICs or FPGAs. The ORC3990 is designed to meet the demanding requirements of smallsat and CubeSat missions where SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost) constraints are critical. It incorporates built-in error detection and correction (EDAC) memory, SEU (Single Event Upset) mitigation circuitry, and latch-up protection to ensure reliable operation through radiation-belt crossings and solar particle events. The chip supports standard avionics interfaces including SpaceWire, CAN bus, UART, SPI, and I2C, and provides dedicated interfaces for common satellite payloads including cameras, imagers, and SDR (Software-Defined Radio) frontends. Totum Labs targets the ORC3990 at commercial new-space customers requiring radiation-tolerant processing capability at price points compatible with the SmallSat market rather than traditional space-heritage ASIC procurement timelines and costs.
