About
The Antares is a medium-lift class two-stage launch vehicle developed through collaboration between Orbital Sciences Corporation (now Northrop Grumman) and Ukraine’s Yuzhnoye State Design Office. Yuzhnoye designed and co-developed the first stage airframe structure, with Ukrainian partners including Yuzhmash Machine Building Plant, Hartron-Arkos, Hartron-Ucom, Chezara, Rapid, and Kievprylad contributing propellant tanks, pressurization tanks, valves, sensors, feed lines, tubing, and wiring. Antares was developed specifically to deliver payloads to the International Space Station via Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus cargo spacecraft. It stands 42.5 meters tall with a 3.9-meter diameter. The second stage uses a solid HTPB propellant Castor-30XL engine. Antares has flown numerous successful ISS resupply missions.
