The Cyclone-1 is a lightweight three-stage liquid-propellant launch vehicle developed by Yuzhnoye SDO for deploying payloads into low Earth orbits, including sun-synchronous orbits. It stands 30 meters tall with a body diameter of 2.25 meters and a gross mass of 65 tonnes. The first stage uses the RD870 engine burning LOX and kerosene, the second stage uses the RD809K engine with the same propellants, and an upper stage employs the RD840 engine burning nitrogen tetroxide and UDMH for multi-burn orbital insertion. The design incorporates composite materials for basic core structural elements including tanks for cryogenic propellants, and maximizes additive manufacturing technologies in engine production to reduce cost and schedule compared to conventional manufacturing approaches.
