RD843

The RD843 is a single-chamber, fixed-thrust, restartable liquid-propellant engine developed by Yuzhnoye SDO to produce thrust and control the pitch and yaw of launch vehicle upper stages. It burns nitrogen tetroxide and UDMH propellants and achieves a vacuum specific impulse of 315.5 seconds with a vacuum thrust of 0.25 tf. The engine supports up to […]

About

The RD843 is a single-chamber, fixed-thrust, restartable liquid-propellant engine developed by Yuzhnoye SDO to produce thrust and control the pitch and yaw of launch vehicle upper stages. It burns nitrogen tetroxide and UDMH propellants and achieves a vacuum specific impulse of 315.5 seconds with a vacuum thrust of 0.25 tf. The engine supports up to 8 restarts in its expandable configuration with a proven Technology Readiness Level of 9, reflecting its full operational maturity. Originally developed for the Vega and Vega-C launch vehicles’ AVUM upper stage, the RD843 has demonstrated high reliability across multiple European space missions. Weighing only 16.5 kg excluding gimbal actuators and frame, it is a compact and flight-proven upper stage thruster.
