The Space Launch System (SLS) Sea Basing is a maritime launch infrastructure concept developed by Yuzhnoye SDO for conducting prelaunch processing and launches of medium-class integrated launch vehicles from ocean-based platforms. The system is designed to perform up to 12 launches per year with missions lasting up to 25 days excluding transit time. Sea basing provides flexibility in launch azimuth and equatorial orbit access unavailable from inland sites. The system operates in sea conditions with wave heights up to 2.5 meters and wind speeds up to 10 m/s at launch time, with operational temperature ranges from 10 to 35 degrees Celsius. This approach enables optimal launch geometry for commercial geostationary satellite customers.
