About
ETS-9 (Engineering Test Satellite-9), also known as Kizuna-2, is a JAXA/Mitsubishi Electric geostationary engineering test satellite designed to verify advanced satellite technologies for next-generation communications. It features a high-power bus, large deployable antennas, and Ka-band and optical inter-satellite link payloads. ETS-9 serves as a technology demonstrator for Japan’s future commercial and government satellite programs, building on the lineage of the ETS-VIII (launched 2006) and leveraging the DS2000H platform.
