Ground Displacement Detection (InSAR Monitoring)
Radar interferometry service for millimetric monitoring of ground subsidence, uplift and deformation.
About
Spacebel’s Ground Displacement Detection service uses radar interferometry (InSAR) from Sentinel-1, Cosmo-SkyMed or TerraSAR-X satellite data to monitor millimetric vertical ground displacements. The service tracks subsidence, uplift or deformation triggered by seismic or meteorological events, supporting risk monitoring for infrastructure, mining legacy sites and urban areas.
As a reference deployment, Spacebel established an inventory of ground movements linked to former mining operations at the Anderlues site in Belgium. Using Sentinel-1 radar imagery collected between December 2020 and December 2021, the service mapped subtle vertical displacements, confirming stable ground conditions with minor subsidence under 20 mm/year.
