Description
BASILES is a numerical simulation framework co-developed by Spacebel as part of the CNES simulation platform, allowing engineers to design and implement advanced simulators for satellites, probes, launchers and ground systems. It acts as a toolbox that manages the tedious aspects of model coding and assembly, letting simulation engineers focus on the domain-specific parts of a simulator.
The BASILES workflow covers the full simulator lifecycle: designing and developing specific sub-units and integrating specialised external components; assembling models, sub-sets and binaries into a complete simulator; configuring and instantiating the simulator and defining connections between model instances; running the simulator and interacting with the simulation in progress; probing the simulator during execution; and displaying and exploiting results through graphical and statistical tools, including comparison of results between two test runs. Tests can be referenced, archived, renamed, deleted or compressed for long-term management.
BASILES is built to handle tens of thousands of models and millions of events per second, with the ability to optimise simulation execution across multiple processors to reduce computation time for complex cases. It can also connect to physical devices, producing hybrid digital/hardware-in-the-loop simulators for testing under real conditions. The framework integrates several simulation-modelling standards, including Simulation Model Portability SMP2 and the ECSS E40-07 SMP standard, supporting distributed and multidisciplinary simulation, reuse and portability of simulation models across stakeholders.
