The Haven-1 Lab is a pioneering platform designed for microgravity research, development, and manufacturing within a commercial space station environment. It supports a wide array of scientific endeavors, including biology and biotechnology, where microgravity accelerates disease research, pharmaceutical testing, and advancements in regenerative medicine, bioprinting, and nanoparticle development. It also facilitates space-based plant research for long-duration missions. In physical sciences, the lab enables studies in fluid dynamics, materials science, and combustion under conditions unattainable on Earth. Furthermore, Haven-1 Lab is crucial for technology demonstrations, aiding in the testing and perfection of technologies vital for human life in space and beneficial for Earth-based applications. It also supports human health and performance studies to understand the impact of microgravity on crew psychology and physiology during extended missions. The lab offers full ISS EXPRESS rack capacity with eight Middeck Locker Equivalent (MLE) payload slots, each providing 100 W of continuous power. Payload operations are managed by the Haven-1 astronaut crew and can be remotely commanded and monitored via Starlink’s gigabit-speed internet. Products and samples can be delivered and returned from space using a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.
