About

Vast Space is developing Haven, a series of commercial space stations targeting LEO habitation and research post-ISS. Haven-1 is a single-module station designed to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 and accommodate up to 4 crew members for missions of approximately 30 days. Axiom Space-style private astronaut missions are planned to transport crew via SpaceX Crew Dragon.

Haven-1 launched in 2025 and demonstrated Vast’s space station capabilities. Haven-2 is Vast’s larger, multi-module commercial space station selected by NASA under its Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destinations (CLD) program — one of the two stations NASA is co-developing as ISS successors. NASA has committed to purchasing crew time aboard Haven-2 to ensure US government astronaut access to LEO after ISS retirement.

Vast Space was founded in 2021 by Jed McCaleb (co-founder of Ripple and Stellar blockchain networks), who has self-funded the company with significant personal investment. The company’s long-term vision extends to constructing the largest space station in history, with Haven modules that can be interconnected to create growing habitation and research facilities.
