About Vast Space

Vast Space was founded in 2021 in Long Beach, California, with the mission of building the first commercially operated space stations providing artificial gravity for long-duration human habitation. The company is privately funded and has moved rapidly from founding to hardware development, positioning itself as a leading contender in the emerging commercial space station market as NASA transitions away from sole reliance on the International Space Station.

Vast's first station, Haven-1, is designed as a single-module commercial space station intended to be the first crewed commercial space station launched independently of government-led programs. Haven-1 is designed to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 and host crew missions delivered via SpaceX Crew Dragon, providing habitation, research, and technology demonstration capability for private astronauts, researchers, and international partners.

Beyond Haven-1, Vast is developing a roadmap toward larger, artificial-gravity space stations using rotating architecture to provide simulated gravity for long-duration crew health — a capability not present on the ISS or other current commercial station concepts. The company has assembled a team including veterans from SpaceX and other leading aerospace companies, and has secured a NASA Space Act Agreement supporting its commercial LEO destination development in the broader ecosystem of companies (including Axiom Space, Blue Origin/Sierra Space Orbital Reef, and Starlab) competing to provide ISS successor capability.
