About
The Long March 4B, also known as Chang Zheng 4B, CZ-4B, and LM-4B, is a Chinese expendable orbital launch vehicle. It is a three-stage rocket launched from Launch Complex 1 at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. Its primary mission is to place satellites into low Earth orbit and Sun-synchronous orbits. The LM-4B had its maiden flight on May 10, 1999, carrying the FY-1C weather satellite. As of July 2026, it has a history of 57 launches with 56 successes and 1 failure. The single failure occurred on December 9, 2013, with the loss of the CBERS-3 satellite due to a premature shutdown of one of the third-stage engines, traced to foreign debris blocking the fuel intake. The rocket is part of the Long March family, with the Long March 4C being a derivative with a modified third-stage engine and payload fairing.
