About
The Lusospace MTQ400 magnetorquer is a passive magnetic system used for attitude and control (AOCS) purposes in medium to large size satellites. Its functions include detumbling, stabilization, and reaction wheel unloading. The magnetorquer generates a magnetic field that interacts with the Earth’s magnetic field, providing a control torque for the spacecraft. A key feature of the MTQ400 is its demisable design. Unlike typical magnetorquers with magnetic cores above 3.5 kg that tend to survive re-entry due to shielding, Lusospace developed this solution to meet the identified need for demisability for recurrent actuators. The MTQ400 was developed specifically for space applications and has achieved a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6 according to ECSS (ESA) standards. Its design is free from any non-EU export restrictions, including ITAR and EAR.
