About

The Magson Gradiometer (MFG-2S) measures the magnetic field gradient using a spatial arrangement of two independent Magson fluxgate sensors. This dual-sensor setup is specifically used to detect small-scale anomalies in the ambient magnetic field by comparing readings between the two spatially separated sensors, canceling out uniform background field contributions while isolating localized gradients. The gradiometer is used for magnetic moment determination and magnetic cleanliness testing of spacecraft components at facilities including ESTEC (the European Space Agency’s technology center) and Thales Alenia Space, making it a valuable tool for satellite AIT (assembly, integration, and test) magnetic compatibility campaigns as well as terrestrial geophysical anomaly detection surveys.
