About
Space Inventor’s Modular Power Platform (MPP) builds upon the flight-proven P4-series equipment and is scalable to suit mini- and micro-satellites from several tons down to medium-sized CubeSats. The MPP combines battery chargers (MPPT-P4), battery modules with integrated management (BAT-P4), and power distribution units (PDU-P4), along with essential electrical power backbone-connected modules such as the Flight Preparation Panel (FPP), Kill Switches (KS), Bus Protection Unit (BPU) and passivation functionality.
Its modular architecture allows seamless scaling, supporting solar array power levels up to 4 kW, while maintaining advanced power conditioning and distribution. Each output power channel is fully protected against overcurrent and latch-up events for mission reliability.
At its core, the MPP is built around a shared power backbone bus connecting all modules within the satellite power system, providing two redundant battery buses, two CAN buses, and two Platform Enable buses. Each module includes dual backbone connectors, enabling daisy-chain interconnection for compact harnessing (up to 700 W) or connection via a power aggregator (AGG) for higher power configurations (up to 4000 W).
Kill switches (separation/inhibit switches) enable safe isolation of the power platform during launch preparation and deployment. A passivation system employing bistable relays ensures secure end-of-mission deactivation by disconnecting all energy sources. The Flight Preparation Panel supports remove-before-flight pins, external charging and communication interfaces for pre-launch testing and configuration. A dedicated Bus Protection Unit safeguards communication and power buses against electrical transients and surges, and enables full power cycling of the MPP via I/O channels such as radio uplink.
The MPP-700 series is optimized for CubeSats and smaller microsatellites, providing up to 700 W total power transfer, with the number and combination of MPPT-P4, BAT-P4 and PDU-P4 modules tailored to mission requirements. The MPP-2000/4000 series is designed for larger microsatellites and minisatellites, delivering 2000-4000 W power transfer capability, including a ruggedized power aggregator (AGG) for reliable interconnection between MPP submodules.
