About
HECTOR is a rotary actuator from Nimesis Technology based on shape memory alloy technology, designed for large angular displacement deployment of satellite and rover structures. It provides 90 to 180 degrees of angular travel combined with high output torque, making it suitable for deploying booms, solar panel hinges, antennas, and other articulated appendages. At TRL 7, HECTOR has been demonstrated in a relevant space environment. Like all Nimesis SMA actuators, it operates without pyrotechnics — generating no explosive shock loads — and is compatible with sensitive electro-optical payloads and instruments that require a benign mechanical environment during deployment.
