About
MIRI is a custom Earth observation satellite designed and manufactured by Reflex Aerospace for Marble Imaging, following Marble Imaging’s win of the German Aerospace Center’s (DLR) small satellite payload competition (Kleinsatelliten-Nutzlastwettbewerb). MIRI is the first satellite in Marble Imaging’s planned 200-satellite very-high-resolution (VHR) Earth observation constellation. The spacecraft is custom designed from the ground up around Marble Imaging’s mission objectives, operating in a 500 km Sun-synchronous orbit with a 10:30 local time of ascending node, for a 3-year mission duration (5-year optional extension). MIRI has a total mass of approximately 145 kg, generates 600 W of solar array nominal power with 780 Wh of usable battery capacity, and can draw up to 1200 W peak power. Communications include S-band TMTC (1 Mbit/s downlink, 128 kbit/s uplink) and X-band payload downlink at up to 400 Mbit/s. MIRI is anticipated to launch in Q4 2026.
