About

The robust picoRTU modular system is designed to meet the space industry’s demands for faster time to market while reducing non-recurring costs and simplifying integration and verification processes. The picoRTU system can function either as a standalone base unit or, through a stacked modular approach, as a collection of interconnected add-on units. A variety of unit models are available, each offering different types of ECSS-compliant user interfaces, allowing the system to be efficiently tailored on a mission-by-mission basis with minimal non-recurring charges. The picoRTU units incorporate a radiation-tolerant FPGA with EDAC-protected internal memories, and a System-on-Chip implementation incorporating SkyLabs’s PicoSkyFT Fault Tolerant processor core, which is Radiation Hardened by Design. The design uses a 3-level FDIR hierarchical approach to increase robustness against single event effects. Interoperability via the Remote Terminal Interface is provided using standardized redundant CAN (ISO 11898-2) interfaces, fully compliant with ECSS-E-ST-50-15C CANopen protocol at the application layer. The picoRTU units share a single, universal, qualified firmware based on a real-time OS, following the SAVOIR RTU Functional and Operability Requirements (SAVOIR-GS-003). The picoRTU system, together with the skyEGSE-GUI tool, represents a turnkey solution for integration, test and verification. In-house MAIT, TRL 7, qualified to ISO 19683 and IPC Class 3+.
