About
The Space-borne Television System (STS) is designed for installation on board a stationary spacecraft to form digital images of the environment and objects within the field of view of its television cameras. Captured imagery is stored in the long-term memory of a data acquisition (recording and processing) unit for subsequent transmission over the radio channel to ground receiving stations or relay stations. The system consists of a set of up to eight monoblock digital cameras together with a video data recording and processing unit. It supports 2 to 8 cameras, producing images up to 2048 x 2048 pixels, in either monochrome or color (RGB) chromaticity, with a framing rate of up to 10 frames per second. The data recording unit has a storage capacity of 24 Gbps. Each camera weighs 350 g, while the recording unit weighs 1.7 kg. Input power consumption is up to 20 W when all eight cameras operate simultaneously. The product was released in 2019, has a guaranteed service life of 5 years, and an estimated production/delivery time of 24 months. It has not yet achieved flight qualification, but can be adapted to customer requirements.
