About
StriX is Synspective’s series of SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) microsatellites, designed to build into a constellation providing persistent global coverage for infrastructure monitoring, disaster response, and change detection. Each StriX satellite weighs approximately 100 kg and operates in an SSO at ~500 km, providing L-band SAR imagery with 1–3 m resolution.
L-band SAR (1.25 GHz) has specific advantages over X-band (used by ICEYE and Capella): it penetrates vegetation canopy, snow, and dry soil, making it ideal for subsidence monitoring (measuring ground deformation of millimeters over time caused by groundwater withdrawal, mining, or earthquake damage), forest biomass assessment, and agricultural soil moisture mapping.
Synspective, founded in 2018 in Tokyo, has launched multiple StriX demonstration and commercial satellites. The company’s analytics platform processes SAR time series to detect subtle ground movements — a key product for the Japanese market where land subsidence is a major concern for urban infrastructure. Synspective has also signed MoUs with infrastructure operators, financial institutions for property risk analysis, and government disaster management agencies.
