About

On December 16, 2006, the AFRL TacSat-2 satellite was successfully launched, carrying Busek’s 200W Hall Thruster for its primary propulsion system. This event was a significant milestone, as it represented the first US-designed and US-built Hall thruster to operate in space, highlighting a major achievement for both Busek and the broader US space industry. The mission’s primary goal was to demonstrate enhanced maneuverability for microsatellites. Post-launch, plume measurements and on-board diagnostics were conducted, which successfully verified the thruster’s performance.
