The CCD97 is a high-performance frame transfer, electron multiplying CCD sensor specifically engineered for demanding applications requiring high frame rates and operation in ultra-low light conditions. Teledyne e2v’s proprietary back-thinning process is utilized to achieve high quantum efficiency across a broad spectrum of wavelengths. The sensor incorporates an electron multiplying CCD architecture, which includes an extended readout register. This register provides variable gain capabilities, ranging from 1x to 1000x, before the signal undergoes voltage conversion in the output amplifier. This electron multiplication feature is crucial for effectively eliminating readout noise, even while maintaining fast readout rates, making it suitable for sensitive imaging tasks where signal integrity at low light levels is paramount.
