About OroraTech GmbH

OroraTech was founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), with the mission of using satellite thermal infrared technology to detect and monitor wildfires earlier and more comprehensively than any ground-based or aerial system. The company builds and operates a constellation of small satellites equipped with Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) sensors and proprietary onboard processing capable of detecting hotspots as small as a single burning tree.

The OroraTech system combines thermal payloads, direct-downlink ground station infrastructure, and more than 100 proprietary algorithms to move from raw satellite data to actionable wildfire alerts in near-real time. By processing data onboard each satellite and distributing ground reception antennas close to customer regions, the system cuts fire detection latency from hours to minutes — providing civil protection agencies, foresters, and infrastructure operators with early warning critical for containment response.

Beyond wildfire detection, the company is expanding its LWIR technology toward Land Surface Temperature and Sea Surface Temperature monitoring for climate resilience applications. OroraTech achieved a 30-minute average global revisit time for wildfire hotspot detection and is continuing to grow its satellite network. In 2026, the company supported the launch of the Hellenic Fire System, a dedicated country-optimized constellation for Greece.
