5G NTN Network Emulator (NEMU)
Software emulator for off-air and in-orbit validation of 5G NTN link performance
About
The 5G NTN Network Emulator (NEMU) is a software product executed on customer-provided hardware that lets satellite operators and terminal manufacturers confirm or tune 5G NTN performance before committing to commercial deployment. It includes a waveform/physical layer emulator plus a scripting interface for control, signalling and observation, and can run on the target communication payload hardware operated through the existing satellite bus — usable both on a lab flatsat and in-orbit after launch. The tool provides a controlled and fully configurable environment to emulate real-world scenarios (signal degradation, fading, network configuration) so theoretical simulations and feasibility studies can be validated with a full end-to-end test framework, supporting development for both 5G NTN transparent mode and regenerative mode. This reduces the cost and risk of moving from business case to live 5G NB-IoT/NR NTN service by giving operators visibility into system behavior before investing in a full commercial rollout.
