BGAN Protocol Stack

The BGAN Protocol Stack (BPS) is Gatehouse Satcom’s core software module used by multiple BGAN user terminal manufacturers, including Addvalue Technologies, Japan Radio Co., Honeywell and Hughes. It combines a UMTS Non-Access Stratum stack on top of the proprietary Inmarsat Access Stratum, and together with physical layer and application layer software forms the complete software required for a BGAN user terminal. The BGAN Protocol Stack is a core component of the Inmarsat User Terminal Reference Stack, guaranteeing compliance with the Inmarsat System Definition Manual (SDM); it is thoroughly tested against Inmarsat Mandatory Test Requirements, validated over-the-air via the BGAN satellite network, and further vetted with Gatehouse Satcom’s own automatic test suite refined over many years. It can be integrated with any physical layer, whether developed by the customer or supplied by Gatehouse Satcom. More than 120,000 terminals across over 40 different products have been licensed with this stack, making it a proven, lower-risk foundation for new BGAN terminal development.
