AmbaSat (formerly AmbaSat-1 Crowdfunded Satellite) produces one of the world’s smallest functional satellites — the AmbaSat-1 — a 35×35 mm printed circuit board satellite (a ‘sprite’ or ‘ChipSat’ form factor) that integrates solar cells, a microcontroller, sensors, and a radio transmitter onto a single board weighing approximately 10 grams. AmbaSat-1 satellites can be deployed in clusters from CubeSats or directly from the ISS.
The AmbaSat-1 platform includes a sensor slot for customer-defined sensors: options include temperature, CO2, NO2 gas sensors, UV irradiance, or spectrometers. The radio transmitter downlinks sensor data directly to amateur radio ground stations (using LoRa 868 MHz or UHF 437 MHz protocols), making data reception accessible without expensive ground infrastructure.
AmbaSat targets universities, schools, and STEM education programs wanting hands-on satellite mission experience at minimal cost — a complete AmbaSat-1 kit costs a fraction of even a 1U CubeSat.
