About
ARM-O (Aurora Resistojet Module for Orbit Control) is part of Aurora Propulsion Technologies’ ARM product family of water resistojet thrusters. The underlying resistojet thruster is designed primarily for water propellant but can support multiple propellant options, and weighs about a gram, allowing complex multi-thruster configurations even on CubeSats. ARM-O lets operators control their satellite using this modular resistojet system, and is described as ideal for collision avoidance and small orbital maneuvers. It is presented as an efficient and compact propulsion system providing reliable propulsion for precise control and extended mission capabilities, and is positioned as suitable for SmallSats, CubeSats and PicoSats. Stated advantages include ten times more thrust per unit of power compared to FEEP (Field Emission Electric Propulsion) systems, and double the specific impulse compared to cold gas propulsion, while being a safe and reliable propulsion option. As with other Aurora products, ARM-O is designed with modularity in mind, supporting both low-cost off-the-shelf configurations and extensively customized solutions, and is aimed at helping operators maximize fleet return-on-investment through orbit maintenance and failure-tolerant deorbiting while supporting sustainable use of space. An in-orbit demonstration (IOD) of ARM-O is planned for 2026.
