About

The W18 Reaction Wheel Unit (RWA) from Bradford Space is part of a heritage-proven reaction wheel family used for satellite attitude control. A minimum of three sets of RWA are needed per satellite to allow rotational control around the three axes, with a fourth generally present for redundancy.

The W18 offers high torque level over the full speed range, fixed torque rise time for precise and repeatable control, analogue or digital interface options, and accurate wheel speed signal reporting. Most braking energy is dissipated within the wheel drive electronics, with no energy injected back into the spacecraft power bus.

Flight heritage includes missions such as SOHO, RadarSat, Seastar, Olympus, Integral, XMM, Rosetta, Aeolus, and BepiColombo.
