About

Teldix space wheels from Collins Aerospace are momentum and reaction wheels for spacecraft attitude control systems (ADCS), available with integrated wheel drive electronics at 14 to 68 Nms, or as customizable solutions. The wheel family spans an angular momentum storage capacity range between 0.04 and 68 Nms, accommodating spacecraft weighing between 30 kg and 7,000 kg, with a high motor torque variant intended for satellites weighing 1,500 to 5,000 kg. The wheels are usable as either a momentum wheel or a reaction wheel. They are power/loss torque optimized as well as volume/mass optimized, hermetically sealed, and built in a modular configuration allowing fast adaptation to customer requirements. Key subsystems – rotor, motor, bearing unit and electronics – are space qualified, and the product line spans a broad spectrum of different wheel types. Collins Aerospace states more than 40 years of experience in space wheel technology, with Teldix space wheels accumulating more than 7,300 years of combined in-orbit operational time, described as far exceeding competing products. The wheels are designed for high reliability through heritage and a lifetime design of more than 15 years.
