DAMA/IW Network Controller
MIL-STD-compliant mobile UHF DAMA satcom network controller for tactical defense operations
About
Gatehouse Satcom’s DAMA/IW Network Controller is a mobile UHF SATCOM controller used in conjunction with US-allied defense operations, compliant with DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) MIL-STDs and interoperable with existing DAMA/IW tactical terminals. DAMA is a channel-assignment technology adapted and specified in MIL-STDs for tactical communication; it operates over any GEO satellite offering bent-pipe capacity, requiring no special security or coordination hardware on the satellite itself. The controller divides allocated bandwidth into channels and assigns them from the available pool as requested by terminals, supporting speech, messaging, data, VoIP, unicast, multicast and broadcast services. The system consists of one controller and multiple terminals, with the controller managing allocated channels and enabling both controller-to-terminal and inter-terminal communication (direct or via loop-back through the controller), giving tactical operators the flexibility to communicate with any other land, sea or airborne terminal for mission-critical interoperability. Gatehouse Satcom offers the controller both as a boxed solution and as individual software components (MAC and Control Layer).
