DAMA/IW Protocol Component
Embedded DAMA protocol software components for tactical and closed-network satcom terminals
About
The DAMA/IW Protocol Component is Gatehouse Satcom’s embeddable Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) protocol software for tactical satellite communication (TacSat) terminals, offered as individual components such as MAC and Control Layer software for integration into third-party hardware. Like the DAMA/IW Network Controller, it uses UHF band capacity on a geosynchronous satellite in a bent-pipe configuration, requiring no special satellite-side security or coordination hardware, and supports speech, messaging, data, VoIP, unicast, multicast and broadcast services. The embedded stack targets governmental, military and corporate security use cases including border control, security guard operations, and oil and gas field communications, and can be incorporated into handheld equipment for increased operational flexibility. In this configuration, mobile terminals communicate under the control of a hub, also connected via a DAMA-based channel assignment scheme, enabling closed, secure communications for organizations that need protected tactical radio connectivity over commercial or military GEO satellite capacity.
