Pin Puller (HDRM)
Shape-memory alloy pin puller mechanism for securing and releasing spacecraft hardware; low-shock, non-pyrotechnic, with high reliability for critical deployments.
About
Dcubed’s Pin Puller is a non-explosive actuator that holds a pin in the extended position to secure hardware during launch and, on command, retracts the pin to enable deployment. Used in door mechanisms, antenna restraints, antenna deployment systems, solar array latches, and docking interface locks.
Like all Dcubed HDRMs, the Pin Puller uses shape-memory alloy (SMA) technology — no pyrotechnics, no shock, no debris, and safe to actuate in the lab during test campaigns without range safety restrictions.
The pin extends 5–15 mm depending on the variant and retracts fully on a single electrical pulse. It can be reset manually for repeated ground testing.
Applications include: antenna restraints, hatch mechanisms, berthing/docking pin interfaces, propellant valve latches, and deployable structure latches. Used by customers including MIT, Intuitive Machines, and multiple ESA missions.
